Rickenbacker AFB was located in or near Columbus, but I believe is has closed & is now an airport. (Wright-Petterson is in Dayton)

i don't think so. miamisburg is just 15 min or so away and it's a heck of a lot nicer than dayton. i wouldn't live in dayton again for anything.

Not exactly. What you have is the Ohio Air Natinal Guard there at Rickenbaker. The 121st Air Refueling Wing, the 164th Weather, and the HQ of the Ohio Air National Guard. If you are looking to join the regular USAF, then you are barking up the wrong tree. You can tell them where you would LIKE to be stationed, but they are going to send you where they need you. If you want to be in Columus, and be in the USAF, then you will need to check into joining the Ohio Air National Guard.

Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, U.S. military installation, 8,023 acres (3,247 hectares), W Ohio, NE of Dayton; est. 1917. One of the largest airport installations in the world, it is the air force's main research and development base, and the headquarters of the Air Force Logistics Command (national center for defense activities). The Aerospace Medical Laboratory and the Air Force Museum are also on the base. There is a Youngstown Air Reserve Station. There is a National Guard station in Cinncinati. Camp Perry Air National Guard Station, Port Clinton, Ohio Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base, Columbus, Ohio

The only real Air Force base left in Ohio is Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton. There might be a few Air National Guard Armories around. Well you if you want to live in Columbus you might want to check with the housing officer and your commanding officer to see if they have any problem with it. As long as it does not interfere with your job preformance, and you can get to and from the base without any issues they might not have a problem. But every base is different. So the best advice I can give is like I said, just check with the housing officer and your commanding officer.

I am from Ohio and when I got married I went to an office in Columbus for my ID and insurance. Not sure what it is called though..sry. Ohio is pretty nice, just like anywhere else has it's bad parts. Hope this helps and if I can find out the name from my hubby (he is in Iraq so when he calls I will ask) I will let you know.

http://www.globemaster.de/bases.html This gives the bases of all military installations throughout the world by branch. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._Air_Force_bases This gives a list of all US Air Force bases in the US and lists the websites of each. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wright-Patterson_Air_Force_Base Wright Patterson in Fairborn serves Dayton, Ohio. The size and jobs on that base are listed on the website. There was one in Heath, OH called Newark but was closed in 1996. http://www.cr.nps.gov/nagpra/DOCUMENTS/BasesMilitaryMAP.htm This website is a US map of military installations in case there may be one in close proximity but in another state you may want to consider. Good luck!
